About Us

S

We're Four students from Purdue that were brought together by a shared intrest in promoting social change-

Our intial goal was to create possible technological solutions for protesters around the globe to socialize anonymously, and quickly. GrapeVine is one of our solutions, a peer-to-peer decentralized network which relies on proximity to relay information. Private Keys are used as broadcast channel verifications, and self-wiping protocols are attached to each post as an additional security measure. The advantage of GrapeVine over other messaging platforms is that GrapeVine doesn't require any cellular data or wifi to transmit information, as it operates on Bluetooth LE entirely. Thus, GrapeVine also has a lot of potential to be utilized as a post-natural disaster platform, in cases that cellular towers and networks are down.

The Juicy Stuff~

Or how a bunch of hard-pressed Bros paired Bluetooth and Bridges to make an apeeling app.

GrapeVine is the final product of nearly 36 hours worth of Java, Javascript, HTML, CSS, Firebase, Kotlin, & Android Studio. We utlized the Bridgefy SDK, a number of Bluetooth LE API's, used two complete stranger's phones to check security (thanks guys!)

-

The app itself was mostly written in Kotlin, and assembled in Android Studio. We used a couple different phones for testing, intially just seeing if we could bypass pairing protocols. We eventually settled on using Bridgefy's SDK, and built our own messaging protocols on top with other Bluetooth LE API libraries. Java, Javascript, HTML, and CSS were used heavily in the creation of the website you're currently looking through, and Firebase was used for hosting/analytics.
